(Magdalen, Magda, Marlene, Lena) R.S.C.J, [1779-1865], Foundress. She was well educated for a woman in Post Revolution France. When only twenty-three, she was elected superior of a new order of women devoted to teaching girls. She headed the Society of the Sacred Heart or Madams of the Sacred Heart for sixty-three years. By her death, her society had more than one hundred houses and schools in twelve countries. Today, the Madams work in education and in social and healthcare ministries. She said, "œA woman cannot remain neutral in the world"¦(women) must be strong in every battle of life."� Her feast is May 25.
