[died 304], was a high Roman officer of Diocletian in North Austria. He would not renounce his faith. He was beaten twice, scourged, his skin was peeled off and he was set on fire before being thrown into a river with heavy stones around his neck. Many miraculous healings are attributed to him. He is patron of Poland and Austria and is a powerful protector against all dangers caused by fire or water. He is patron of firefighters and of Austria and Poland. His feast is May 4.
